CDT Partners With BP to Produce Off-the-Shelf Petrochemical Safety and Operations Training Courseware

CDT MicroGraphics, Inc. has partnered with BP (Amoco, ARCO) to produce a product line of industrial safety and operations training courseware. Content is based on a videotape/workbook series of training courses endorsed by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and is targeted to oil refinery personnel and those working in petroleum, petrochemical and industrial environments.

• Hazards of Air
• Hazards of Steam
• Hazards of Electricity
• Hazards of Nitrogen

The Principles of Good Furnace Operation Series:

• Furnace Fundamentals
• Furnace Performance Variables
• Furnace Operating Concerns

Additional Refining courseware currently being converted for internet delivery:

• Safe Handling of Light Ends
• Engineering for Safe Operation
• Safe Operation of Refinery Steam Generators and Water-treating Facilities

Courseware addresses such safety concerns as confined space entry, lockout/tagout, explosion hazards, oxygen rich and oxygen deficient atmospheres, and numerous other safety concerns.

Courses range from ½ hour to 2 hours in learning time. Mastery testing and user tracking assist training administrators in meeting training, refresher and documentation requirements. This courseware employs a variety of online support functions integrated into the training interface. In addition to fully navigational and dynamic left side menus, access to such online support features as popup notes, examples, tips, glossary, links to additional resources, a listing of course objectives, full search functionality, audio controls, and a help feature are also available. All courseware has been developed in a framework that is readily customizable to reflect user-specific branding and operations if this is desirable.

Courseware is AICC Level 3 and SCORM v1.2 compliant. In addition, courseware automatically detects for API or HACP communications protocol and communicates with standards-compliant Learning Management System (LMS) environments accordingly. This means courseware interfaces directly with all Standards-compliant LMS systems.

This courseware is available in two models. It can be licensed for installation on internal servers or as a quantity of user seat licenses for access to courseware from our hosting servers. Essentially, the cost to license courseware in a hosted solution is on a per user per year basis and is based on the number of user licenses, the number of courses or categories of courses, and the term licensed. Licensed courseware is deployed via the award winning Learn.com LearnCenter LMS. This LMS is standards-compliant and provides training administrators full administrative and reporting capability. Alternatively, we offer a perpetual world-wide license to install selected courseware on your internal servers for deployment to an unlimited number of your internal users. The courseware is then managed, accessed, tracked, and reported on via your LMS.

In addition to courseware targeted to the petrochemical industry, CDT offers off-the-shelf libraries of general, industrial and hazmat/hazcom courseware. CDT also provides custom eLearning development services for the production of online training. CDT supports a collaborative Partner Development Program for joint funding and production of new courseware.
